Outside the Lines: Late Paintings of Jean Dubuffet

July 10, 2024 - September 6, 2024
In our upcoming exhibition Outside the Lines: Late Paintings of Jean Dubuffet, we showcase exceptional works from the artist’s later period, spanning the years from 1979 to 1983. The exhibition features paintings from three distinct series: Brefs exercices d’école journalière, Psycho-sites, and Mires. The centerpiece of the exhibition consists of five paintings from the Psycho-sites series which we recently acquired. The Psycho-sites comprise approximately 500 paintings produced, in a burst of creativity, between February 1981 and January of 1982.

Jim Dine

The Montrouge Hearts

September 26, 2023 - October 27, 2023
Close to the Heart – Jim Dine’s Lifelong Connection to the Heart Motif Jim Dine’s love affair with the heart began in 1965 when he designed the sets for the San Francisco Actor’s Workshop’s production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. As a student he had seen a series of red hearts on white backgrounds which inspired him to design a heart-shaped swing with a red cushion suspended from a silver chain for the character Puck. From that time, the heart became “a universal symbol that I could put paint onto” and “as good a structure geographically as any I could find in nature. It is a kind of landscape and within that landscape I could grow anything, and I think I did.” (Dine, Paris Reconnaissance, Steidl, Göttingen, 2018) It is our privilege to present this series of heart paintings which Dine created for our gallery at his studio in Montrouge, Paris.
